Original Linework by =torture-device
You can find the line-art here along with a background description: [link]

When I saw this image it blew me away, as my eyes wandered around its many details, I imagined myself rendering it.
I put it to =torture-device and he agreed it would be a good combination of mediums.

So here it is. This is the product of many late shifts at the garage, when all the other staff have gone home. I've lost count of how many hours this took me, all I know is that I've never enjoyed rendering with pencil as much as I did with this piece. I'll be mailing it to him as a gift from artist to artist :salute:

Pencils used: H, HB, 4B

Time taken: Approx. 20+ hours

Like all of your works, I am astonished by the level of detail that has gone into the shading and pencil work. What is really wonderful here is the different shadows and the lightplay at work with evey individual dip and surface. I can't even begin to imagine how much work that must have taken. I also enjoy the juxtaposition you have with all of these hard, metallic angles and then the person who is in the center with soft angles, almost overwhelmed by it all. Phew!

Overall I am very satisfied with the bottom two-thirds of this piece. However, I feel that the top third (especially the helment area) is a bit lacking. The details are almost obscured or blurred to the point of becoming a big mass without differences in light or shade. I would like to see some more work done in that area, especially right behind the person's head. That big "hand" sticking out of the back also throws me off some. It stands out a lot compared to the big "mass: of metal and detail and everything else. What is its purpose?

One more thing I am wondering about- what is he looking at? I am a little confused as to whether he's looking down or slightly down but forward. I think there is a level of pensiveness in his expression which makes me wonder...
